We all think of wine in a negative way simply because we have been told so. Wine is unhealthy; wine can cause different deadly diseases and a lot of other myths. The truth is that wine, especially red wine has been a topic of research from years and there have been some impressive findings that prove it is healthy for your body.

While it may seem counter intuitive, these scientific reports suggest that red wine can extend your lifespan, reduce risk for cancer, and improve heart and mental health. But these are just a few benefits. Red wine is exceptionally wonderful, it’s more than just a recreational beverage, and you can enjoy it without worrying for health issues because it’s beneficial for your health.

Combats Stress

BMC Medical (a medical journal) reported a study conducted in Spain that proves red wine can reduce the risk of anxiety and stress. The researchers took a sample of more than 5,000 men and women within the age bracket of 55 – 80 years. The research tracked their alcohol consumption over a time span of 7 years. It was concluded that the people who drank more than three glasses of red wine were immune to common mental health issues such as depression and stress.

Prevents Colon Cancer

A scientific research at the University of Leicester, UK, illustrated the result of their findings where they proved that resveratrol can prevent colon cancer. This is because resveratrol, which is the primary ingredient of red wine, has the potential to minimize bowel movement rates to a great extent, which is the major cause behind colon cancer

Fights Aging

Back in 18th century monks believed that red wine can slow down the process of aging and now it’s even backed by scientific research. The resveratrol in red wine functions in a way that fights aging so you can look younger for a long time. It’s a common fact that the consumption of wine can increase the chances of breast cancer. However, red wine is an exception because it has completely opposite effects. Scientists at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center reported that there are certain chemical components in red wine that limits the production of estrogen meanwhile elevating the production of testosterone in aged women who are vulnerable to breast cancer. The reduced amount of estrogen naturally prevents the body from developing breast cancer.

Prevents Memory Loss

Consumption of red wine can be vital for reducing the risk of memory loss diseases such as dementia. Red wine has special chemical compounds that help in diluting blood platelets. When blood platelets are diluted, they become more flexible and function properly. Blood is then transported openly throughout the brain. A healthy blood supply in the brain prevents memory loss.

Blindness is mostly caused by the outgrowth of blood vessels in the eye, red wine restricts this growth. Macular degeneration is a common issue faced by a large population of Americans over the age of 50. The resveratrol in red wine keeps the blood vessels in a healthy state, thus reducing the chances of running blind in one or both eyes.
